By supporting their community's adopt-a-street members and litter picking groups, the district council is demonstrating its commitment to fostering a cleaner environment. Funding the education sector will enable future generations to gain a better understanding of the detrimental effects of litter pollution and the importance of responsible waste management. This long-term approach is crucial in instilling environmental consciousness and promoting sustainable behaviors among young people. The Wychavon team acknowledges the significance of addressing litter pollution through education and community support, with the aim of creating a cleaner and healthier environment for all.

All of us have a role to play in reducing our impact on the environment and making our planet a more sustainable place to live.
Wychavon understands this and have committed to funding litter education in schools with Little Litter Warriors education initiative. Wychavon have commissioned this to support the council's anti-litter campaign throughout the Wychavon District. The academic years of 2021-2024 we have seen the program grow from strength to strength as we welcomed new schools on board the program and return to many to redeliver the litter workshops. Little litter Warrior’s mission is to educate, encourage and enrich children’s learning, preparing them for a lifetime of caring in their communities’ environment.

Whats on offer

The Little Litter Warriors program is designed to highlight community litter pollution through a fun and engaging litter pick or hunt. The children learn first-hand about their local environment and the impact litter has on the wildlife, marine life, and their community areas. I bring along vintage litter to visually impact the need for change in human behaviours. I have personally found these items whilst litter picking, and the children can see how litter can remain in our environment for many years to come when littered.
The oldest piece I've collected dates back to 1928!
I have also had many litter items donated by our local litter picking groups so there is lots of vintage litter to see.
A questionnaire tick list is supplied to highlight how many crisps packets, drink bottles, sweet wrappers etc, have been collected during the litter pick activity. We have lots of fun searching for an old piece of litter that the children can use in a show and tell activity in school with other year groups.

As part of the council’s promise to tackle littering and plastic pollution, Wychavon District Council offer these sessions FREE to schools throughout the district over the next three years to support their Anti-litter Campaign.

"On Tuesday 16th March, we were joined by the Little Litter Warriors whose mission is to raise awareness of the problem of littering in the Wychavon area and to encourage children to take responsibility for their rubbish and also take pride in their environment. The children worked really hard all afternoon collecting litter and it was astonishing, and disappointing, how much litter had ended up on
the field"
Mrs Williams, Cleeve Prior CE primary school
"Karen from Little Litter Warriors came in on Monday and talked to the whole school about litter, how it doesn't degrade quickly, how it affects animals and what the children can do about it. The children collected litter around the school grounds and also Year 3/4 walked to the park and collected litter there and on the footpaths on the way. We collected over 2 bags of rubbish and
the oldest piece of litter was 9 years old!"
